I’ve been working with people to create change since 1997, when I was community organizing in Humboldt Park, Chicago. We confronted the public school system and won a million dollars in repairs for a local elementary school which had a leaking roof, broken windows, and no heat.
Realizing that we could make real change in the world, I went on to study herbalism and deep tissue massage as a way of making change more personal. I worked with clients for many years to move and feel differently, and to release trauma.
Decades of study have shown that the most important and essential approach for effective counseling is developing a solid relationship between counselor and client. I’m here to be your ally, working with you and for you to accomplish your goals.
We will identify what brings you to counseling, what you would like to work on changing, and how you will know when it has changed.
We will then develop clear goals for getting there.
I use evidence-based techniques and methods, drawing primarily from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Compassion Focused Therapy. I am also trained in EMDR.

Eric brings over 25 years of experience working in the mental health field which spans varying capacities from being a behavioral health technician, to a master wilderness guide, to the Clinical Director of a Level IV PRTF in North Carolina. Eric received his Master’s degree in 2006 from Naropa University in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Wilderness Therapy, and has worked at SUWS of the Carolinas, Four Circles Recovery Center, Eliada Home and has been the founder and owner of Heart and Soul Recovery, PLLC since 2014.
Eric prides himself in practicing every single modality he prescribes his clients/patient. He is a wounded healer and has been in his own quest for recovery/discovery since 1990. He is committed to continuous learning and specializes treatments that help alleviate signs and symptoms of all Addictive Disorders and/or Co-Occurring Disorders. He specializes in “Process/Behavior” Addictions, which require more sophistication in screening, assessing and treatment than a traditional Substance Use Disorder (SUD). Process addictions at their core could be considered an intimacy disorder and usually stem from early childhood attachment wounding and/or significant abuse/trauma and neglect. Eric specializes in Compulsive Sexual Behavior (CSBD), Internet Gaming Disorder which can look like compulsive use or pornography, dating apps., cybersex, escorts, video games, and/or a combination thereof. CSBD needs to be looked at much like an Eating Disorder; the goal is not to stop eating/being sexual, but to develop a healthy relationship with sexuality, whatever that looks like for the individual client/patient. Eric is passionate about learning the new science of Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB) and Dr. Dan Siegel’s modality called Mindsight. IPNB and Mindsight utilize the main principles from the fields of psychology, biology, physics, sociology, and anthropology, synthesizing their main tenets to create greater health for the whole. He applies the IPNB and Mindsight models when working with addiction, trauma and/or co-occurring disorders. He has been trained in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy level II and has gone through level II training in EMDR with Dr. Jamie Marich, considered an international authority in Addictive Disorders, Trauma and EMDR.
Eric has been an active member of the Mankind Project (MKP) since 2008, which encourages men to take greater responsibility and accountability for every facet of their lives, and fosters men to be their authentic selves. MKP prides itself in creating a safe container to help men look at their “shadow,” what Carl Jung termed unconscious, negative and positive character traits which we keep hidden.
Eric deeply admires the courage it takes to enter into therapy and begin the process of self-exploration leading to greater overall well-being. He considers it an honor and a privilege to assist you on your quest for wholeness.
